Derby de Mayo Delights

I thought it would never come. Friday! Rejoice. Holy. Balls. What a week?! I tell you. As I have been gabbing about all week, this weekend is a real predicament for party celebrators nationwide. I mean do you Derby? Or do you Mayo? I mean I always Mayo, but I mean really!??! What is a girl to do? Let me help. So do you like horses, hats, bourbon and bow ties? Or do you enjoy donkeys, sombreros, tequila and mustaches? The hard decisions in life. I am not going to force you to choose one over the other. I wouldn't do that to you. Why not celebrate both? A hybrid celebration for the Mexican equestrian in you. I have compiled treats that will fare well in ANY setting and are sure to be munched and guzzled quickly. Down the hatch we go.

For the Derby in you...
{mint julep}
For your Mayo alter ego...
{chunky guacamole}
{best salsa ever}
{grapefruit margarita}
And for a guilt free Mayo celebration you will need the following. I will have you know, I have purchased the Crystal Light Margarita mix and I plan on using it this weekend. My mom got me turned on to this stuff and she absolutely swears by it. She said all you need to add is tequila, frozen strawberries (optional) and ice and BAM. You have a super low calorie cocktail. For those of you who know my mom, she is fabulous and she knows her stuff. This could also be made virgin. But after the week we have had, virgin is definitely not happening in this household.
And for the hybrid in you, I present the Mint Julep Margarita. That is right.

So which is it for you lovers this weekend? The Derby or Cinco de Mayo? Or both? My motto is everyone do what they want. I will tell you this, copious amounts of chips and salsa and low calorie margs are going to be consumed in our household. I need a Mariachi band. Stat. Oh and a poncho! Loves.

  1. The crystal light margarita sounds delightful! I figure we will watch the derby in sombreros as opposed to the traditional derby hat!!

  10. We are Derby de Mayo all the way. We are having a Derby/Cinco/birthday celebration all wrapped up in one. Sloppy Jose sliders, mini hot browns, Jalapy Poppys (a healthier version of jalapeno poppers) and tons of fresh guac. Thank your fab mother for the low-cal margarita mix tip. Although, this weekend my margarita machine will be filled to brimming with as much caloric Island Oasis as will fit. Low cal mix will have to wait until next week!

    Feliz 138th!
