My newest sponsor ELMELM

Ok. So who else has thrown themselves on to the painted rhinestone bandwagon like I have? I mean seriously. Hello statement pieces. I am all about it. So when ELMELM and I decided to team up, you can imagine the extreme excitement that happened within me. Let's just put it this way, I did the Carlton for a good 10 minutes.
Thank the lord for window treatments.

Their accessories are the perfect addition to any LBD, LWD or really any ensemble in general. I have been wearing these morning, noon and night and have been getting compliments galore. Everything is just so unique and one off that I cannot help but want it all. I am beyond obsessed with EVERYTHING in their store. Here are a few pieces they sent over to me that I am rocking on the reg.
Question. How do you girls take pictures of yourselves and make them look halfway decent? I look like a momo in each one. But you get the drift. Self portraits are not my forte. Note to self. Is this necklace not to die for?!?!? Totally on the hunt for a leopard blouse to wear it with.
Full on bozo shot.
Some other pieces that I am quite certain I cannot live without.
Drooling yet?? I mean if this stuff doesn't make you want to "Carlton" to their Shop, I am not sure what will.

What is new in my recipe world and a Furby Furbish winner

Good morning Vietnam! I am not emulating Robin Williams today. No. It is just that friggin hot here. I told you I would soon be bitching about the weather not being to my standards, and here we are. I am not a liar. Thank you jeebus the weekend is upon us. I need it more than ever. But I am pretty sure I said that last week...Here is what I have been stuffing my face with this week.

As much as it physically pains me to give even a shout out, much less credit to the STL, I have to give credit where credit is due. For those of you who are unaware, STL is known for their Italian fare. I am serious. In that Nelly listening, arch loving, Cardinals obsessed city, they are cooking up some serious Italian food. I have to say, my favorite local dish would have to be their Italian chopped salad. For those of you who have been there and have had Italian, you know exactly what I am talking about. It is this delicious salad full of pimentos, red onions, artichoke hearts, parmesan cheese and the best vinaigrette you have ever tasted. As I said, I am from KC, so for me to make a public statement of obsession regarding anything STL related, means its really good. Someone please commit me immediately.
So I took a page out of my girl Ashley's book and followed her quinoa making lead. She introduced me to this recipe this week and ladies....ladies...ladies. This right here is a winner. The boy went back for more even. I am not kidding. This is one of the best meals I have had in quite awhile. However, I am not shocked since it comes from Iowa Girl Eats. Girl makes love to her quinoa dishes.
I am aware of the fact that my food pictures suck. FYI. We do not ever get a chance to eat until about 9:00 pm everyday, hence the darkened pictures. I will try to get us on the early bird special to produce more light friendly snapshots. Cross my heart.

Ok. On to what you loves really want to know about. A Furbish winner. And can I get a drumroll please? The winner. Of this awesome. Vignette. Set. Shall be named. After this.
Ok. Back. The winner is Alison! Alison. If I were still in the NC, I would totally come and steal this off of your coffee table. I could not be more serious. But congratulations! Email me and I will get your information over to the lovely Jamie. Thank you to all that entered. Loves!

Where I be...eating toast

This morning I am sharing my favorite breakfast, toast, with some of my favorite ladies at A Piece of Toast. I am obsessed with this blog and come to find out, these KC natives and I are alumni of the same all girls High School. It is so serendipitous. Totally unplanned. The cosmic forces collided and guided us to have toast together. Go check out What I Wish I Were Wearing. Now!

Favorite Room Feature: Peppermint Bliss

So do we all remember the "Smoking Pussy" from earlier in the week? Yeah, that was my girl Bailey from Peppermint Bliss. She is a genius, right? Well today we are so fortunate to have her sharing her favorite space currently in her house. Drumroll please. Her dining room! Ok. I obviously adore every person that shares their favorite space on FRF, however, Bailey's got design skills that kills. I am just sayin'. You be the judge of her fabulously unique space. Go Bailey!

Hayyyyy Y'all.
So my favorite room in our house is our dining room. For lots of reasons, and imma tell you all of them!
First of all, I love to entertain, and this big ol' table can fit squillions of people. OR you can take out the leaves and it is cozy and intimate.
I also love how bright and happy this room is, usually dining rooms are a dark and moody affair, and while I like that, this room is just so refreshing. The minty green walls, pops of pink and yellow. Dare I say it, it embodies Peppermint Bliss.
These china cabinets are so fabby. They were just boring ol practical Ethan Allen cabinets with great details and features (like the built in lighting) but we fluffed them up with some glossy coral paint on the inside and some pure white outside, and now they are some of my favorite pieces. I also love the china in them, gifts from our wedding and my husbands great-Aunts china passed down to us.
I love how this room has evolved with most of the same furniture from our last house in Chicago, but feels totally different. It is the same buffet, same table, same chairs just refinished and recovered.
The details in this room please me so. The trim on those curtains is insane. Smoking Pussy painting makes me feel scandy, and the fabric on the chairs is perfection.
Thanks so much for having me!
xoxo

The One Room Challenge: Week One

So I am TOC (temporarily on crack) and have willingly decided to participate in the One Room Challenge. For those of you who are not familiar with the One Room Challenge, it is a 6-week self motivated challenge to finishroom in your home (or a client's) from beginning to end. Once a week all of the participant's will post their weekly progress. That's right all. Apparently I have other bloggy friends who are TOC. For those of you who are familiar with my blog, know that I do not play Rachel Ray and repeat the meanings of acronyms. I say it once for definition. The way an acronym should be used.

For this One Room Challenge, I decided my office would be best suited for the most shocking and extreme makeover from start to finish. Here are the humble beginnings of the space.
Cozy chic, right? Stop with the judgment, peeps! We just moved in. (A month ago.)
So before we get to any progress that I have made, I think showing you the intended direction of the space would be oh so key. This will be a reminder to you old time S+S followers, but a newbie for our new loves. Here is the original plan for my office space.
Here would be the most basic update to the office. Oh what moving boxes and crap does for a space. For those of you eyeing that dome lamp, it is my personal Ikea Hack. It is perfect for the space.
Ruh roh. Ok. So the boxes and crap are not entirely cleaned up. Sigh. We are going to play "Where is the golden hand?" Do we spy it in multiple places here? Very Kelly Wearstler, right? Yeah, I spray painted a cast iron wall hook. My kind of DIY.
Ok so I lied. A little more progress has been made. This girl needed her gallery wall completed. I mean seriously. I thought maybe some of you might be interested in these prints as well. See the links below.

And again.
So there we have it. Week one has already come and gone. I told you I wasn't in this alone. The other temporarily insane, ahem, lovely ladies who are participating along side of me in this marathonesque challenge:
Go and check them out and show them some L.O.V.E. Maybe while you are there, offer them a valium and a cocktail. Something tells me they will gladly accept.

summer series: diy coil pots

Pass the Kleenex (I am the person who calls all tissue "Kleenex". The power of branding.) because today would be the closing ceremonies of Courtney and my Super Summer Series. It has been so fun brainstorming Summer inspired projects around the house to share with you all. Today, to honor our last day of the series, we are twerking a Summer inspired DIY. Mine? I am so glad you should ask. A coil pot. Here they be. In all of their roped glory.
Modeled after these beauties from Anthro. I have had my eyes on these little babes for some time now. So I thought to myself, "Self. Why don't we fashion some of these?!" And I did.
{coil pot}
Just a disclaimer. This photo was obviously shot before the DIY took place. Obviously. Ignore Liquid Nails and insert hot glue gun. Liquid Nails is so out for me. Sorry.
Materials Needed:
Rope - For the two pots that I made, it took 28 feet of rope.
Terra Cotta pots
Spray paint - Any color your heart desires
Hot glue gun - Remember Liquid Nails is dead to me.

Step 1: Once I ditched the Liquid Nails, this project was easy peasy. Take the end of the rope and secure with hot glue, at the top of the pot. Start working your way around and down the pot. Just securing under the rope all along the way.
Step 2: Now. I do not have a photo of this. But I actually taped sections of the coiled pot off to make a design and then spray painted from there working my way around. You could also spray paint the rope beforehand but that seemed a bit laborious for me.

Here is the big tropical coiled pot plant in her new home.

And the little girl filled with cacti and succulents. Finally, a plant I am not capable of killing. Also of note. If I were to do this again, I would have chosen a more magenta spray paint. The pink looks great in person, but not in pictures. Blends too much with the rope in photographs.

So there you have it. The last feature of the Summer Series. Just remember us by this:
Now I shall give you a sneak peek of what Courtney doctored up over on the West Coast. We must have both had botanical holding vessels on the brain. I tell ya. Great minds...

So with the close of one series, marks the start of another. Tomorrow I might add. Sheesh. Busy Summer around here. Get ready for it. It is going to be muy exciting. Muy. Loves!

monday musings: animals in decor

Lovelies! How I missed you over the weekend. How was it? Mine was super busy chocked full of projects, fun and the pleasure of being overserved on Saturday night. Oy. Sunday was definitely a bit of a rough day and I quickly realized I am no longer 20. Sigh. Nothing that a little run for the border (ahem TB) and two naps couldn't fix. Anyhoooo. For those of you who know me, know that I am obsessed with animals. Obsessed. Obviously dogs are my number one jam, but aside from dogs, I do not play favorites. Animals have become my favorite go to accessory to funk up a space and give it a unique feel. When done right, it is really quite glamorous. Just wait for it.

How hilarious is this?!?! Honestly. Somewhat obsessed with Bailey's "Smoking Pussy." Cat! Cat, girls. It gives her gorgeous traditional bedroom the perfect amount edge that it needed.
{peppermint bliss}
I saw this bedroom last week and have been in love ever since. Notice the framed camel happening here. Well at least it looks like a camel with subtle humps. Yes. That is what it is. A subtle humped camel. Dear.
{moodboard}
Love the equestrian theme happening here. A gallery wall of different proportions of a horse's body. Also, notice the stool in the space also has horse legs. Love it.
{atlanta homes magazine}
On to the animal statues in a space. Not sure I will ever tire of this trend. I spy a cat, dog and elephant all in one bookcase styling. It works.
And again in the same space, animal art AND a chinoiserie dog. Such a stately room and this definitely adds some novelty to the vignette.
{design sponge}
A dog lamp?!?! Done. Again, great colorful and inviting area but totally topped off with none other than an animal. Kind of a strange looking dog but I do not discriminate.
{via}
Ahhhh. This galley kitchen is melting my heart. All of the details and the monochromatic palette have me swooning. Ummm horse statue? Yes. Adore it.
{house beautiful}
And a little tiny horse statue used for coffee table styling. Perfection.
{emily henderson for hgtv}
Big week happening here my loves. Tomorrow is the last day for Courtney and my Summer Series. We are finishing off with a DIY. Watch out. Also, the start of a 6 week renovation project that lots of my bloggy friends are also participating in. Not to mention a special guest. AND do not forget to enter yourselves into the giveaway of a lifetime, The Furby Furb Giveaway. You will be sorry if you don't. For reals.

Chipotle Chopped Chicken Salad

Pumpkin pies. How are we today? What a ridiculous question I am asking. It is Friday. Hello. The sky could be falling and all would be well in my world. Obviously I have been on a veggie kick lately and that means ANOTHER salad for us today. Taaaadaaaa. This salad is beyond amazeballs. It is more like amazeglobes. While the dressing is not super low cal, I really couldn't care less because I am more so into cutting carbs (not class). For those of you calorie counters, the dressing is worth it. Trust. When I am at home cooking, presentation is certainly not everything. Having an industrious shovel to help myself to delicious tasting food is.
Ingredients
Dressing:
1/3 c chopped cilantro
2/3 c sour cream
1 T minced chipotle chile, canned in adobo sauce (I actually added about a tablespoon of adobo sauce to the dressing as well. I like the spice.)
1 t ground cumin
1 t chili powder
4 t fresh lime juice
1/4 t salt

Salad:
4 c shredded romaine
2 c chopped roasted skinless, boneless chicken breast
1 c cherry tomatoes
1/2 c diced avocado
1/3 c chopped red onion
1 can black beans rinsed
1 can corn (I omitted this part. Counting carbs, peeps.)
1 half cucumber chopped (I added this part for crunch.)

Mix all together and BAM!
You get that. Yum. For reals. Ok. Big weekend on the horizon. Big. First up my lovey dovey, talented Jules is taking professional headshots for me this weekend. Ummm if you are in Richmond or surrounding areas and need some professional photography, she is your gal. Girl wears many hats. I am still trying to figure out an activity she cannot do and do well. We are also attending a Richmond bloggers beauty event this weekend with our girl Erin and I will be sure to take pictures to let you loves in on the goods. Also, start of a huge series next week. Huge. Let's just say there is a room in my house that is being renovated and you will all be in on the process. Busy weekend ahead. Phew. I am exhausted by even looking at that itinerary. What are you all getting into? Fill me in. Loves!
