Favorite Room Feature: designstILes

For those of you who are not familiar with the fabulous Irene at designstILes, we are going to get you familiar. Also, you are missing out. Irene is a super talented designer who is also extremely witty and likable. We cannot resist a witty designer. Truth. Girl has a super unique and chic eye for design. In addition to her amazing design projects, she also is a pro with table settings. A girl after our own heart. Irene is going to share her favorite space with you all today. Her bedroom. You will love it!

Hi S+S readers! It's Irene. Some of you may know me from my blog, designstILesSo flattered to be asked to participate in this fun series. I was pretty happy to find out they read my blog, and the timing couldn't be more perfect. We just painted our bedroom and it became my favorite space in our house immediately after. This is what our room looked like when it was staged for viewing. Not bad, but certainly not us.
Then it became this after we signed the boat load of paperwork and moved in.
I injected some color but never really loved the brown accent wall. One day I couldn't fall back to sleep and had visions of a redo. Called up my painter and had him paint it like this:

The color is much darker, but we have so much natural light come in, it really bounces off the walls nicely. Feels calmer and I'm really enjoying the transformation. I still need to add some pretty trim to the plain white drapes. For now, I like the contrast against the blueish/gray walls. The light fixture is vintage and scored it at a thrift store. I found an identical one online for about $1,000. Bought mine for $100. It's definitely a favorite item in our whole house.

The artwork is a piece created by my husband's great-aunt. It was in my mother-in-law's attic and I asked her if I could have it.
Pillows are a mix of Home Goods and West Elm. The one in the very front was made by my mom.

Lamps are from Home Goods too. The vanity was picked up from a company of a woman my sister knows.

This lamp if from Ikea and I painted the shade. Artwork is from the Pasadena Rose Bowl. I saw the real deal at the Prado in Spain, so when I saw this one for $2 I thought it'd be a great memento to remind me of that trip. My little walnut rock also means a lot to me. I found it on our last day on a trip to Hawaii. It was right after my husband was saying I hadn't bought myself any souvenirs. I looked down at the rock, thinking I should pick it up but didn't. Almost immediately my husband picked it up. It was an instant perfect souvenir.
That's the end of my Favorite Room tour. Thank you so much girls for having me. Hope you all enjoyed!
