I am EXTREMELY excited for today's guest. She is extremely gorgeous, stylish, fabulous and a real life friend. Melanie Knopke and I have known each other through a previous job and then reconnected through blogging and now by way of Kansas City. She is an independent stylist and let me tell you, girl has style. We had a blogger meet up last weekend with Ali from Dash of Details and Sarah of Apparently Obsessed and I was smitten with all of them. See picture below.
Mel is sharing her baby girl's nursery today and claims she was on a tight budget to implement the design. I believe you Mel, but seriously, you wouldn't know it to look at it. The space is so thoughtfully decorated and every inch and detail is covered with some sort of girly glam. I am obsessed and know you will be too!
Hello Everyone! I am so HONORED to be a part of my favorite room series on Sadie + Stella. My name is Melanie Knopke and I am a stylist, blogger and freelance writer in Kansas City. I have two little ones, a boy who is 4 1/2 and a daughter who is about to turn one. Her room was a labor of love and I enjoyed every minute of it. After having done a boy nursery and then a big boy room I was ready to add some pink into my life!
I knew I wanted a room that was sweet with a touch of sophistication. I made the mistake of doing a super juvenile nursery, and it didn't grow well with my son. This room needed to stand the test of time and grow with our daughter.
I have always loved a pale almost ballet slipper pink, so that is the color we did on the walls. It is called Light Quartz by Benjamin Moore. I found the ikat caddy on the changing table at Home Goods, and it was inspiration for the rest of the colors in the room. Pink and aqua is a cheerful, yet serene combination, we then popped it back to grey which is such a hot neutral right now.
Vintage Mirror: from Vintage Market (Leawood at 83rd & Lee Blvd)
Rug: Urban Outfitters
Light Fixture: Ikea
I also knew I wanted to wallpaper the crib wall. I fell in love with this very feminine metallic leaf print from Thibault. It's so much prettier in person, I feel like the pics don't do it justice.
The simple white crib bedding is from Lauren Alexandra (the best local baby boutique with amazing custom bedding), vintage ballet posters were a gift from a friend. I had the pink/white pillow made with fabric from Urban Arts + Crafts (also in KC), pom-pom trim lumbar pillow and Jellycat giraffe is also from Lauren Alexandra.
I was on a tight budget for this room, so I tried to do a lot of things myself. I used the inexpensive white drapes from our son's old nursery and added the hot pink pom trim (found at Hobby Lobby). It's SO easy to do, I just used my hot glue gun to attach it to the edges.
The tiny boudoir chair was my grandma's, I had it recovered in fabric from Calico Corners
The shelf was also from my son's room, and I just painted the insides of it with a hot pink acrylic paint.
I made the abstract art, the Love print is from Etsy.
Even a year later I still love this room. It's cozy and sweet and perfect for our little girl. Thanks Lindsay for including me!
Bravo! This is just stunning. I love that you used a hot glue gun and are saying it proud. That pop of color inside the shelves in one of my favorite parts. Love all of this.
