monday musings: geniuses and leprechauns pick green interiors

Is anyone as crab-tastic as I am today? Why, oh why, do I not reside in a state that rejects Daylight Savings? It seems as though each year that passes, I forget how painful the first two days of adjusting really are. I feel like a vicious teenage girl that is lacking sleep. Sigh. Can we talk about pretty rooms? Maybe that will make me more joyous. Not likely, but it is worth a shot. 

So I told you. Geniuses pick green. For those of you who have seen Meet the Parents, you know what I am talking about. But also, its true. Green has always been my favorite color. And I am a genius. Hypothesis proven. Any hue of green, really. So we are in the month of March and are so quickly approaching St. Patrick's Day. This definitely puts me in the mood, and appropriately so, for all things emerald and kelly green. 

Drahhhh-maaa! Please tell me you love this as much as I do. Please. This is such a perfectly collected, eclectic space. I love how Miles Redd, yes THE Miles Redd, included pieces with such interest and allure. Who else is digging that yellow tufted chair? Hmmmm. 

Same fabulous room at a different angle. That tone on tone artwork is brilliant. I told you geniuses, and leprechauns, pick green. No brainer. That orange velvet bed is luxury. Total glamazon.

This room and I DEFINITELY have something going on. The detailing on those windows?! Are you serious? Larve. So the green tufted sofa is definitely the most. So dreamy. So plush. So green. Somebody of significance lives here and I need to be their friend.

So lovely. Those floor length kelly green drapes, paired with the greenish-gray walls is beyond perfect. Who would have thought? Very bold and saucy move, but with a big reward. Style. That beaded chandelier is also something to look at. Such simple elements are used here and yet there is huge impact.

Can we say ornate? Can we say opulent? Look at that chandy girls! Totally looks 70's/futuristic. I am thinking Sputnik. Honestly, one might think this room is on green overload. That one would be incorrect. Loving all of the green velvet pieces in one room.

An hallway with such beauty! Again, more green, tufted, velvet seating. No one can ever have too much of that. Never. Such a classically styled chair paired with funky mercury looking concave art fixtures. Totally unique.  

Told you. More green, tufted, velvet seating. Get out. Hold the phone here. Anyone spot a TV in this space? I would love to know how one watches their favorite guilty pleasures (ahem Real Housewives) with that hideous plant obscuring the view? Ladies, that is an example of non functional design. I am just keeping it real. Other than that, darling.

I love the look of this space. It totally has the Spanish architecture vibe. Not only that, I am not sure where this house is located, but I picture it to be in Southern Cali. More tufting. More green. More velvet. I adore that sheep that resides in this room. I am not sure what he is doing there, but he is presh.

S+S chow: ginger steak salad

We're back this morning with yet another recipe from the one and only Pioneer Woman. Everything we have ever made of hers is gold, we swear! This salad is no exception. It has the perfect balance of flavors! Super simple to make too, which always sells this girl! Enjoy!

Ginger Steak Salad {via pioneer woman}

Ingredients

• MARINADE INGREDIENTS:
• 2 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
• 1 Tablespoon Sherry
• 2 cloves Garlic, Minced
• 2 teaspoons Brown Sugar
• 1 whole Rib-eye, Strip, Or Sirloin Steak
• 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
• SALAD DRESSING:
• 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
• 2 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
• 2 Tablespoons White Sugar
• 1 Tablespoon Lime Juice
• 2 cloves Garlic, Finely Diced
• 1 Tablespoon Fresh Ginger, Minced
• 1/2 whole Jalapeno, Seeded And Diced
• SALAD INGREDIENTS:
• 2 whole Green Onions
• 8 ounces, weight Salad Greens (baby Lettuce, Endive, Radiccio, Etc.)
• Cherry Tomatoes

Directions

Combine steak marinade ingredients in a Ziploc bag. Mix and place steak into bag. Marinate for 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Combine salad dressing ingredients and slice green onion.

When steak is finished marinating, add 2 tablespoons olive oil to a hot skillet. Cook steak about 1 1/2 minutes per side, or until medium rare. Remove from skillet and keep on a plate, allowing to cool slightly.

Toss salad greens in 3/4 of the salad dressing. Place steak on cutting board and slice thinly, then pour juices from the plate over the top. Mound tossed salad on a platter, then place sliced steak on top of salad. Pour remaining salad dressing over the top. Sprinkle green onions over the salad, and add cherry tomatoes if you like.

S+S Design: eclectic entry

Do you remember the understated glam dining room we shared with you a few weeks ago? We told you that it was only part one of a four part series. Today dolls, we are onto part deux and we couldn't be more thrilled to share! We love, love, love how everything came together. The playful mix of rustic and glam is our absolute fave. This design is for our client's entry. We wanted to make sure it set the tone for the rest of home, we are sure that it will make a statement. 

The first thing you will notice is the fabulous settee that is included in this area. Our client spotted this and it served as a source of inspiration for the space. We are smitten with it! We have also added an interesting console table for an inset nook in the space. Also seen in that little nook area, is an art piece that is intended to bring in color and dimension. It is the perfect pop to pull the colors from the settee into the space. We selected rustic, wooden beaded sconces to flank this art. They bring depth and definite interest. Last but not least, the cowhide rug. It is already a part of our client's space and we love it, it must stay! 

On to Board 2! This board covers the seating area that you immediately spot upon entering our client's home. We chose matching rustic burlap, nailhead chairs to set the space. We absolutely love the neutral colors for the space. To jazz the chairs up a bit, we included some fab throw pillows. You will also find a pedestal table that we envision holding books and obvious accessories to give the place meaning. Let us know what you think! We always love hearing from you! Favorite Room Feature: Moth Design

I need you all to prepare yourself for the most chic, serene, and glam monochromatic space in Favorite Room Feature history. This is neutrals done right, boys. This is Erica from Moth Design. Do you know her? She is so glam. Just you wait and see...

Hi there! It's Erica from Moth Design. I'm happy to be here today sharing a special space in my home on Sadie + Stella's Favorite Room series. 

I chose my family room because it's where I gather with my most cherished people, my 5 boys.  We spend hours here watching movies, reading, just hanging out, etc... 

The color palate is one I find so easy to live with. The art in this space is my own. It's great to be surrounded by things you love and I find the space rejuvenates my sense of inspiration. Nothing is so precious that we can't really live in the space. Leather and other natural fibres clean easily and mean we don't need to sweat spills or wear and tear.

The only thing that would make the space better would be a fireplace and there isn't a wall to put one on... so that idea is out the window. I'm sure my boys would argue that some sort of gaming system would improve the room.

Crushing: Ken Fulk for House Beautiful

Morning, morning, morning. On today's needs list? Coffee, coffee, coffee. Oh. More coffee. Why is it that I am totally dragging lately? Must get the pep back in the step. Before that happens, let's drool over some picture perfect design. 

Why hello! Who wouldn't ADORE coming to and from this fabulous set of red doors on a day to day basis? Serious. There are times that call for a neutral color palette, and there are times that do not. This would be one of those times. Do you see the adornment? Do you see the adornment, people? Those red doors and I have a love affair. Clearly. 

I cannot seem to get a handle on this obsession with this home. I adore the architectural detail, but also love this view of the office space. It is stately and just reveals enough to get my curiosity and imagination running wild. 

I have hardly ever met a navy blue wall that I didn't find fetching. This room would also fit into that blanket statement. My heart is going into cardiac arrest over that cabinet. I cannot even handle how fabulous it is. This seating area is topped off perfectly with two stark white wingback chairs. I couldn't love this seating area anymore if I tried. 

Perfect styling here. A girl can never have too many candles. Fact. 

Oh. My. Lawwwwwd. That gallery wall full of sketches needs to be mine. Immediately. Someone please make it true. I love this as an office space/seating area. There are such distinguished and dignified pieces used in this space. This is a room that would TOTALLY be in our house. Totally. The boy would definitely provide his approval on this one. 

Another somewhat masculine space. The pinstriped accent wall is so tailored and ideal for this room that is not short of architectural detail. Luxurious fabrics and linens have been added as the perfect accessories. Ken. You're killing us here, doll. 

Ladies. Ladies, ladies, ladies. You know how we DIE over unique lighting. Die. Someone prepare to perform some CPR here. I am not sure as to what shape or formation that those crystals are in, and I am not sure that I really care. It is beautiful. Not to mention the perfect gray marble that lines the shower. This is the absolute most PERFECT monochromatic bathroom that has ever lived. If a world of non-color looked like this, I would take it. In an instant.

Monday Musings: Mad Men Inspired

Lovelies! Good A.M. to you all. Did you all have a marvelous weekend? Was it filled with fabulousness? Knowing you gals, I am quite certain it was. Let's get down to business. Does anyone else in the class have a serious obsession with Mad Men? Well. If you don't you should. In case you were not aware, the new season is starting sooner than soon. But not soon enough by my standards. Besides my obvious obsession with the story line and the drama filled drama, I beyond adore the decor and fashion. That era says opulence, color, clean lines and above all else...drama. It is mid century modern on its most glammed up day. Let's explore my musings on this glorious Monday. Mad Men inspired interiors. Duh.

Holy. Holy. This room is me. I am this room. I could not love it more than I do. Where to start? Honestly the painting displayed above the fireplace absolutely makes this room. It makes everything cohesive, but also adds pops of needed warm hues. Those plush green velvet chairs are the absolute most and we definitely die over the accent table to boot.

Another angle of this perfect space. Who is loving the trim on the armoire? Perfect. And the little breakfast table seen here? I would commit petty theft for that chandelier. In love. The wallpaper seen in these spaces definitely exudes the era we are going for and we could not love it more. 

Ok. So this is not home decor, however, it is amazeballs. Is it not? This is the American Restaurant in Kansas City (my hometown) back in the 70's. Can we say opulent? I absolutely die over the attention to detail exercised in this space. Those ceilings are beyond unique and definite stunners. Gold will never be old to me. It is bold. I am clearly on a rhyming scheme here. A very bad one at that. I digress. Can't you see the cast of Mad Men dining here?

A refined, clean mid century modern space. So maybe this is Don Draper's summer home? The low profile and simple lines used within the space bring the room into the mid century modern category. We spy an Ikea Sputnik hack. It is the perfect amount of bling and glam for this perfectly understated space.

This space is Mad Men in modern times. All of the light fixtures seen here take us to a different time, and in a good way. As you all know, I can't ever have enough blackcents. The use of pops of bold color, simple lines and drama are definitely what place this room into another era. Drama people. The use of a go to pattern like an exploded houndstooth brings simplicity yet interest into the room. 

Another view of this awesome space. We always love a good horse figurine. As you all are well aware.  Side note, love that little adorned drum side table. Hello throwback.

Another functional and clean lined space. All of the major pieces to this puzzle are definitely mid century modern. Definitely. I do however, enjoy the unique lighting used, as well as, the interesting piece of art. It brings a bit of whimsy and needed color to the room. I could see Don Draper sitting to have a meal or two here. Dreamy Don.

A present day take on mid century modern. I am in love with the gallery wall of sketch drawings, photographs and turtle shells. Turtle shells?!?! Yes. Turtle shells. This person was definitely a big fan of Michaelangelo and Donatello. Although such a small accessory, the bud vase with the beautiful magenta flowers could not be a more perfect fit here. They add just the perfect pop of bold color in a perfectly neutral bedroom.

Ahhhhh. Don Draper as I live and breathe. Seriously?! Can you see the crew throwing back a few here? This bar is truly insane and I am sure it is every man's dream. If this was a version of the (and I cringe to even utter the overused words) "man cave", I may be able to get on board. The matching herringbone seating here can not be beat. Who is playing bartender?

This "sort of a hero sandwich" looks amazing. Filled with with portobellos, tomatoes, onions and peppers, how could you go wrong? It looks to me like the perfect sandwich for a spring picnic!

Design Crush: Tracery Interiors Romantic Retreat

Happy 1st Day of March! Is that a holiday? No. No it isn't. Even though it isn't even close to spring yet, it kind of feels like the beginning of the season. It is all in my head. It has been a whirlwind around here lately, girls. That being said, we are going to leave you with these lovely images from a design crush of ours, Tracery Interiors. We love the crisp, clean, monochromatic and romantic vibe this house has. It is truly glam and I for one, would like to move in tomorrow. Please and thank you.
