Ikea Hack: The Dome Brasa Table Lamp

It has now been a week since we last spoke about my desperate desire for a Hollywood Regency Brass Dome Lamp. For those of you who got on the bandwagon and decided you were also in desperate need for Brass Dome lighting, look no further. Here she is. In all of her glory! My Ikea hack of the Brasa Table Lamp. You all that follow on Twitter are perfectly aware of what I was up to. Again, thank you for the vote of confidence. Now. Let me first start by saying, this is not even close to her new home. Not even. I am just trying to give a very basic idea of what she would look like in a semi-stylized area. Later, we will get to her actual, current residence. In the ghetto of the house. Where all decorative items go to die until our departure. The dining room table. Chic, people. That is what that is. We keep it strictly chic around here.
So here is where you can get this lovely thang. Her cord even got a paint job.
And the man that made her the woman she is today. My one true love. He never lets me down. The man who makes it appear as though King Midas has struck down on our house time and time again. My Metallic Gold Spray Paint.
Another shot of the lamp in a somewhat stylized area. It is one of the only areas of our house that has not yet been infiltrated.
 And in her actual home. Can we say glamorous? Tres chic, Linz. Hey, I am keeping it real.
I cannot wait to show this brass dome lamp off in her new home, my office. Can you imagine?!! It is going to reside on my new white Parsons desk. She is definitely going to steal the show. I honestly am more pleased with her than I would be with an actual vintage piece. No offense. This lamp has an enormous, oversized dome which makes it even more dramatic. We all know, I love the drama.

monday musings: beachy keen

Happy post Easter day! New holiday. Good morning, lovers. How are you? I have an egg, sun and allergy hangover. It is very attractive. For reals. Today we are talking about tropical and beachy spaces. Some call it premature, some jumping the gun, but I am absolutely smitten with tropical spaces and places in the now. Maybe it is the taste of the summer heat and sun we are currently experiencing, but it has me daydreaming about a tropical vacation? Maybe it is the 3rd degree sunburn that I acquired while laying outside yesterday? No one can say for sure. All I know is that we just got done planning a cruise to the Western Caribbean after the boy takes the Bar. Piña coladas and full days of lazing out in the sun are in my future. Post 3rd degree burns here I come!

Why not add a touch of the tropics into your everyday living to keep you daydreaming of that memorable vacation. Let's call it a staycation. Everyone can handle either a seafan, a piece of coral or some beach inspired colors in any space. It is calling for it. Trust me. It will be that perfect piece that will keep you wanting for more. Let's get on to the beach inspired spaces. Duh.

Holy sea creatures. How amazingly unique is this space? In all honesty. Loving the display wall and how each arch is uniformly cut into the wall with its own feature sea creature. Rhyming. Such a different spin on art. What a fabulous sitting area.

Definition of beach or tropical inspired bedroom. You know I love me some coral! The coral headboard and floral patterned settee are to die for. To die. Can you imagine waking up to this every morning? Paradise.

Ummmm this hallway is amazeballs times one million. Where to start? How about that oversized, overdyed kilim rug? Needing it. The stone walls and floor add so much impact and drama to the space. Totally a beachy vibe. Not to mention the looming palm trees outside of the space. They are talking to us. Pretty sure.

Ok so not straight beachy but it does remind me of the tropics in a serious way. Bright colors with a rustic vibe? Totally. That solid hot pink door would bring me overwhelming joy every time I arrived home. Not to mention that cactus that is so rudely trying to steal the hot pink door's show. Sorry cacti, cannot be done.
Does this row of brightly colored beach houses, and white parked Expedition, leave you wanting to jump in the car and head for the coast immediately? I mean seriously. I am already in the car. This image is the quintessential beach house row that I dream of. This is a framer.
Another beachy door up in here. While not including the shocking neon colors, this subdued pink is still in favor of a tropical vibe. Let's not forget, any shade of pink on a door is a bold move. And the tropics and the beach are all about bold moves in decor. Bam.
Adore this tropical inspired dining room. Don't you? The layered shades of turquoise and blues are totally doing it for me. Not to mention the amazing beamed ceiling. Hello. From the fabulous coral chandy (yes coral chandy), to the turquoise bamboo seating, to the sea life table settings, I am absolutely in love. I wonder what they are serving? Jerk chicken?
{the foo dog ate my homework}
A monochromatic tropical beachy bathroom. This room is nothing short of glam, glam, glam. It is what Fergie would call "Flossy." The shell sink?! Get out of here. I cannot even stand how luxe this little powder room is. Lawwwwd.
{house beautiful}

Big reveal in store for you beauties tomorrow. Let's just say, I found a solution to my brass dome lighting problem. Cannot wait to show you. Thanks for the encouragement from the Twitter followers. I followed your lead! Have a fabulous day, my loves!

s+s chow: eggscellent

Ahhhh Easter. The holiday where it is socially acceptable for me to ingest a dozen in eggs mixed with mayonnaise and seasonings (specifically papa-rikahhh as Paula Deen would say) all in one day. Keeping it super low key around here. Just too, too much going on. So apologies are in order for no Easter table inspiration. Sorry, sorry, sorry. This Easter will consist of shoving boxes out of the way to clear a space for table side dining. Let's be honest, to the couch we will go. However, you all are still glamazons and can totally impress your guests with these uber chic Easter eggs.

Ok, ok. So you can't eat all of those. Let's get down to the edibles. Let's face it, my plan this weekend is to consume an astonishing amount of deviled eggs. Morning, noon and night. Around the clock.

My go to, true blue in the family deviled egg recipe:

12 eggs, hard cooked and peeled
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon creamed horseradish sauce

A dash of pickle juice
Pinch of salt
Fresh ground black pepper

Paprika

Boil eggs. Obviously. Cut the eggs in half. Carefully remove the cooked egg yolks into a separate bowl, leaving the egg white shells opening side up. Mix yolks with mayonnaise, mustard and horseradish sauce. Mix ingredients furiously. After the consistency is established, then you can determine how large your dash of pickle juice shall be. Add salt and pepper. Spoon a little bit of the mixture into each egg white half, dividing mixture as evenly as possible between the eggs. Sprinkle eggs with paprika. In our house, lots of paprika.

And for you adventurous, nonconventional egg makers, you.
{deviled eggs with bacon, goat cheese and green onions}
And wash them down with a few, ok maybe a carton full, of these chocolate dipped peeps. How adorable are these?! Honestly.
{chocolate dipped peeps}
Happy Easter, Spring, or deviled egg day or whatever you shall celebrate!

S+S design: a monochromatic classic living space

TGIMF (Thank God Its My Friday) and I hope its yours too. We haven't shared a design project with you in a hot minute, so how about it? Remember the fabulous client that we were designing not 1 but 4 spaces? Here she is. In all of her glory. Design 3. I hope after design 4 is complete, we can get started on the second floor of her house. She is a dream. After everything is said and done, wondering if she well let me move in with her? Not weird right? Totally normal. Her house is fabulous and so is she.

We envisioned the space incorporating a large seating/gathering area located centrally. The large tufted couch will reside with the back facing the front door and the front facing the windows. The couch will face directly to two large chairs in the space. One, will be the striped chair and ottoman shown on this board, and the other, will be the chaise lounge shown in the second design board. To add a touch of glam to the space up, we have included a gold and antique mirrored coffee table. A driftwood side table was added to the room to give a rustic feel to the gathering room. Last but not least, this mammoth of an armoire. Glammy.

The chaise lounge is included in this board, but we already spoke of that. Sillies. That will accompany the striped number in the board above. Ok. So the client has an amazing space that needs a refurb of the current mantel. Our thought was definitely a mantel that included some reclaimed wood and possibly some marble. A wow factor piece. Currently the fireplace is covered with a cabinet (you will see before and after pictures) and we wanted to show that fireplace off and make it the focal point of the room. The space has a wall of cabinetry. This will be painted one hue darker than the walls to make them pop and add some depth and dimension to the space. Yeah.

This space is so calming and serene and I personally, would love to just kick it here. For sure. Cannot wait to see the aftermath! Happy TGIMF!

Favorite Room Feature: Pawleys Island Posh

Happy 3 days until the weekend. Well two if you are me. I deserve to brag. So, do you all know Julia from Pawleys Island Posh? It just so happens that she is from Richmond, therefore, we are going to be fast design friends. I absolutely adore her style. So classic and so chic. Her spaces are honestly a breath of fresh air. And so is she. The girl loves Bravo. I mean come on. Great taste in design and great taste in television. On top of all of her other talents, she is a super accomplished photographer. Maybe she can help a sister out with my less than acceptable photography practices? Let's face it folks, I doubt I can be helped. Focus. Sooooo, I am so in love with Julia's space and you will be too!

Hey friends!
I'm Julia from Pawleys Island Posh and I am so excited to be guesting today on Sadie & Stella, one of my favorite dailies. I'm sharing my favorite, my living room. Sorry for the crappy phone pic in the first picture, I completely pulled a mom brain on this post and then couldn't take any pictures until after bedtime last night and my camera was in my husband's car.  Not at home. Oh well, you get the idea!

I love that this room is a collection of all my favorite things; art books, knick knacks and memories.
I play in this room with my kids during the day and drink wine and watch bravo (is there even another channel on tv these days) at night.

And here's a picture of of what my living room looked like in my house in Pawleys.
I was able to create a whole new look without replacing all of my furniture.
My husband was veeeery happy about that!

recent finds and buys

First, let me preface this post by saying, excuse the randomness. Please. My thoughts and visions are scattered, like woah. This is going to serve as a phone and neurological dump. You feel me? My house is, what the infamous Gordon Ramsay would say, "a disaster zone." I swear I am in the process of purging, but apparently I am also in the state of bingeing. In no particular order, here are some items that I have picked up along the way, as of late.

Ahhhhh! Love at first site with this baby. If any of you follow via Facebook or Twitter, you more than likely have seen this beaut. The lovely and talented Erin at Richmond Thrifter gave this tired piece a new life. I could not be more obsessed and cannot wait to get my greedy little hands on it.
This picture does not do this piece justice. Trust. Picked this up along the way at Kirkland's on super sale for $75.00. This baby is going to reside in my new office. Something just was lacking here....nothing a little black glossy paint couldn't remedy.
Turned into this. Not a drastic change however I think the black lacquer legs suit the piece. Shocker. Girls, lacquer makes everything better. Rule of thumb. Bam!
Who remembers this old gal? Well she is getting a facelift courtesy of my wonderful parents. Happy early Birthday to me. She has had temporary facials by way of upholstery nails, but now, we are going with the permanent facelift. It is just what the doctor ordered. When our awesome upholsterer came and picked this baby up, I am embarrassed to say what was found under her carriage. A plethora of Stella and Billie's bones and also a few dust bunnies. Maid's day off.
Please excuse the iPhone pictures. To complete this facelift, we are going with the geometric pattern as the base of the chair and ottoman, and the emerald green will be utilized for the piping on both the oversized chair and ottoman. She is going to feel so good once she gets her glamour girl makeover. Love the contrast. Loving the contrast.
Picked up this bowl on a recent T.J. Maxx field trip. I am such a Maxinista. Cannot wait to see her in her new home. Again, I am open for business and taking clients if any of you need a professional photographer. Totally profesh imagery here, folks. I digress. I am thinking centerpiece for the dining room table.
Annnnnndddd in somewhat related news, I am getting a few pieces of art for the new joint. Love the color scheme and whimsy that this will bring to the space.
This has LOOOONNNNNGGG been a favorite piece of mine. I think she will live in my office.
This piece is too glamorous to not share with the entire house, so, I guess she can be in the common area. I guess.
Thanks for journeying with my complete randomness and horrific photography skills. What have you all found and bought lately? Share loves! Don't hoard all of the good deals like you normally do. Did anyone find me a brass dome light?!?! Please say yes so I can discontinue my excessive whining and complaining.

monday musings: wanting hollywood regency dome lighting

Well what do you know, Monday is finally here. I know we have all wished the weekend away so we could get to this day. Right. Today, and everyday really, I am on the hunt for that special item that will absolutely complete a space. What is it today? You ask. A hollywood regency brass dome lamp. This is more like a desperate want ad than a list of musings. A desperate, desperate want ad. Obsessive 20 something seeks glamorous, brass, mushroom shaped light fixture. Musts: Must be shiny and must be dome shaped. This bad boy is going to reside in my new office. We have to make this happen. Help! Until then, here are the spaces that are adorned with this light fixture that I am currently lacking. Jelly jealous!

I am lusting after this dining room like woah. The gold accents, the glamorous light fixtures. That brass, dome lamp. Ahhhh. See I told you. Major impact that light packs. My office needs one. Immediately.
And again. You will not believe it, but the lovely Erika from Small Shop Studio owns both the space above and the space below. Girl is fortunate enough to not have one, but two, vintage brass dome lamps. Sigh. Share the love! I am adoring the lovely glamorous touches in this space. The gilded frames, the pops of pink. It is the perfect place for a girl to get her think on.
Now I know we have all seen this mushroom, dome lamp on this blog, however, this is what the Doctor ordered. Kelly Wearstler, doing it to me again. Need.
Another spin on the brass dome lamp. The brass dome lamp extended off of a stone block. Loving this. Definitely loving this. A little mid century mod happening here. I could definitely live with the outcome of this piece. However, I am still avidly searching for the mushroom lamp.
Oooohhh a floor brass mushroom lamp. Love the contrast it brings residing next to the chrome side table. This fixture is definitely the focal piece for me amongst this space. Wonder why??
Another brass dome lamp done right. Absolutely over the top glamorous vignette. That vignette is just so fabulous that it does not even need that dome lamp to stand its ground. The vignette needs to hand it over to poor me. This little blackcented bar area could not be anymore perfectly ornate.
{domino}
As you can tell, I love a vignette and a I love a brass dome lamp. Again we have a perfectly styled table that the focal point is definitely that damn lamp. Do you see what I am saying here? It is an obsession.
{tumblr}
We have another extended arm brass dome lamp here that resides on a block of stone. So elegant. I love the natural feel that the stone brings to the piece. Also, who is loving this space and the calm and serenity that it washes over you?
{design shuffle}
A different flavor of the brass dome lamp, in a major way. Not one, but 5 brass dome lights. Wowza. That floor lamp is the talk of this space. And that is saying a lot since this space is beyond larvely.
{Kimberly Renner}
So I hope someone answers my want ad because I am pretty sure peeps are getting tired of my desperate pleas for this fixture requirement. Did you all have a great weekend? Any good finds? I will be back tomorrow reporting what I have picked up along the way. Love, L+L
