Favorite Room Feature: Modern Jane

Hi Sadie and Stella readers! I'm visiting today from my blog Modern Jane and I going to share with you my favorite room in my home - my living room.

The first time I saw the house I was smitten with the large room and beautiful windows. Move in and I quickly saw the reality of what I was dealing with. Layers upon layers of wallpaper and an ugly brick fireplace (sticky from several coats of varnish and covered in dog hair).

Here are a couple of before pics from the first time I visited the home.

The wallpaper was removed, fireplace was painted (5 coats!), the floors were refinished and new windows installed. Then, the fun part! Decorating it :) Most of the furniture was thrifted, then painted or reupholstered. The back wall was wallpapered in a pretty geometric print and I still love it!

It's become my favorite room because it light and bright and I spend most of my time there. I like looking around and realizing that it turned out nice and I didn't really spent all that much on the finishes. I successful room on a budget if you ask me!

monday musings: patterned powder rooms

Are we the only ones totally digging bold pattern for small spaces, like a powder room? We can't get enough. The patterns in all of these powder rooms make a BIG statement and we are obsessed.

The shape of this mirror is gorg. Especially contrasted against the striking lattice walls. And that sink! It is more than welcome to come live at my house.

Chandelier in a powder room? Yes, please! Love how the touch of glam chandelier contrasts with the rustic elements. The subtle pattern on the walls make this space.

Holy. Statement. Everything in this room screams sophistication and glamour.

The addition of color in this space is done beautifully with the wallpaper, rug and bold cabinet. That pagoda mirror? Pure perfection.

Grand. That's the word that comes to mind when I see this powder bath. Who ever said black is too dark for a small space? This designer sure got it right. I am swooning over the marble sink with exposed brass hardware. And the mirror. And the sconces dripping with crystals. And... who am I kidding?! I am swooning over everything in this patterned powder room!

There's that beautiful marble again!  The vibe in this room is light, calm and refreshing. The trellis walls are lovely. And the ornate mirror paired with simple sconces, fabulous choice! Love.

S+S chow: summer vegetable crepes

AHHHHH! Its Friday. Finally. We couldn't take much more of this week. For reals. Since it is still approximately 200 degrees outside, we are craving light fare. Today, we present to you decadent summer vegetable crepes.  These crepes have such a light and delicate consistency and are sure to be a crowd pleaser. Bon appétit!

Ingredients:

• 1/3 cup reduced-fat sour cream
• 1/2 cup chopped fresh chives, divided, plus more for garnish
• 3 tablespoons low-fat milk
• 2 teaspoons lemon juice
• 3/4 teaspoon salt, divided
• 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
• 2 cups chopped zucchini
• 1 1/4 cups chopped green beans
• 1 cup fresh corn kernels, (from 1 large ear)
• 1 cup part-skim ricotta cheese
• 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
• 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
• 4 9-inch “ready-to-use” crêpes {can be found in the produce or refrigerated tortilla section}

Directions:

1. Stir sour cream, 1/4 cup chives, milk, lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a small bowl until combined. Set aside.
2. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add zucchini, green beans and corn and cook, stirring, until beginning to brown, 6 to 8 minutes. Reduce heat to low; stir in ricotta, Monterey Jack, the remaining 1/4 cup chives, the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper. Cook, stirring gently, until the cheese is melted, 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from the heat.
3. To roll crêpes, place one on a piece of parchment or wax paper (or leave it on the piece of plastic separating the crêpes in the package). Spoon one-fourth of the vegetable-cheese mixture (about 3/4 cup) down the center of the crêpe. Use the paper (or plastic) to help you gently roll the crêpe around the filling. Place the crêpe seam-side down on a dinner plate. Repeat with the remaining crêpes and filling. Serve each crêpe topped with 2 tablespoons of the reserved sauce and more chives, if desired.

Favorite Room Feature: Dream Book Design

We have been reading Dream Book Design for awhile now. Adri has some amazing DIY ideas and she is not afraid to execute them! She and her husband have totally transformed their house into a designer's dream. Can we say industrial chic? Yes we can. They get it right. Take it away Adri!


Hi Sadie + Stella readers! My name is Adri, and im here from Dream Book Design. Today I am going to be talking to y'all about my kitchen makeover. My hot hubby and I live in a 1950's ranch style home, and we love it. Although we love its character, there were some things that just had to be changed. I love to cook, and spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so I knew that this was a room that needed attention ASAP!

Here is our kitchen before any changes:

We completely knocked down walls, moved the laundry room, changed the floors, added an island, etc. There was a lot of work to be done, and it was a pain during the process. Now that its finished though, oh man I am in love!

Here is the after:

Some of my favorite things about the room:

• The farmhouse sink. I do dishes all the time, and having this huge sink is so handy. I can actually soak even my biggest pots and pans in there! Not too exciting to some, but to me..bliss! I also love the look of it {duh!}
• The brick wall. It adds so much depth and character to the kitchen.
• The open plan of the kitchen. Now, when im cooking I can actually feel like im still apart of conversations going on in the living room.

Lusting for: Leopard

We don't know about you all, but we are totally lusting for leopard accessories lately. All things. Big and small. Home decor and style. You name it. We love it. This pattern, even on a small scale, can make a huge impact in a space. Even the smallest of accessory, brings glamour and edge to the game. 

What a glammy space. We totally love this little office get up.

Here is a game of "Where's the Leopard?" We love the subtle pop of the leopard pillow in a lovely shade of green. So unique. It is the absolute perfect accessory to this green piped couch.

We love the eclectic feel of this room. The mixture of tribal prints, suzani and leopard?!?! We more than approve. We adore the difference in levels of the chairs. Adds an interesting element to the space.

Hello Beverly Hills Regency!! The satiny finish of the plum walls are to die. The mish mash of prints and art work totally put a new meaning to the gallery wall. Oh wait...and that pop of leopard!! Dahling!

Such an elegant and classic space! We love the edgy feel the leopard rug brings to the room. Not to mention all of the glammy accessories. Pagoda armoire? Don't even get us started. Loves!

A cool mid-century modern entryway. Cool art and accessories. This area is totally modernized using the leopard chair. It definitely screams exotic to us!

This is such an amazingly traditional entryway to us. We absolutely adore it! The leopard print stairs are such an unexpected addition. A fabulous unexpected addition...that is!

We love accessorizing leopard with bright colors such as yellow. This chick got it right in her cardigan and funky neckwear. 

Ummm we are so jeals of this phone cover it is ridiculous. Oh and her leopard print bracelet...perhaps?!? This girls phone is even accessorized to the nines.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this clutch. Dying. It is oversized and leopard. What is not to like?!? We also adore her arm candy with the punch of leopard. Obviously to represent the animal kingdom. Duh.

monday musings: sunsational sunrooms

You like what we just did there? What a play on words. We hope you all had a FABULOUS weekend. We are dreading getting back to the daily grind, as we sure you are as well!

Sunrooms are such a thoughtful and useful space if done correctly. Often an extension of the kitchen or a common room, they are a place for a family to relax and enjoy each other and beautiful surroundings.  There is something so charming about these bright and airy spaces. We are obsessed with their casual elegance. Hopefully these cheerful sunrooms will delight your Monday morning as much as they did ours!
