Favorite Room Feature: Bower Power

If you all have not checked Katie out over at Bower Power, we suggest in doing so. We absolutely love her rustic chic style and her son's nursery is the nursery heard 'round the world. It is absolutely to die for and it could not be a better time to be featuring it since we have been doing a lot of nursery/kid's rooms as of late. We know you will enjoy it! Take it away Katie!

A big ole fat virtual hug to Lindsay and Lindsay for including me in their favorite room feature (oh and for being two amazing and inspirational bloggers!). I am honored to be included and welcomed here at Sadie + Stella. Thanks girls.
Let me tell you a little about one of my favorite rooms...my son's old nursery.

In a former life, this room was used as an office but with a tike on the way, we needed to rework the look and function of the space. Afterall, it was to welcome the newest family member but first needed a complete overhaul. Buh-bye power cords, printers, and pinboards!

We also said adieu to the nautical decor that adorned the walls.

And I couldn't say that I exactly missed the clutter that fell on every available surface.

After the transformation, we brought in a rocker, toy and book storage, and boyish woods motif.

It all began with the idea of creating a space that evoked that serene cabin-in-the-woods feeling. We love enjoying the great beauty of nature and we knew that if our son was anything like us, he would appreciate us bringing the outdoors in. The first spark of inspiration was the wood accent wall that we made of cast off pallets. The texture and rough masculinity that it brings to the room was just the starting point we needed.

Over the crib we hung a deer head that brings a chic twist to the space and as a rustic counterpart, a homemade sign states the name of the creek that ran behind our home.

The changing table is actually a buffet that we decided would be the perfect piece for future use. All we did was add a changing pad and all the diapering supplies. Above the changing table, the gallery wall and mirror are not only decoration but a great way to amuse a baby.

The best part about the white frames is that they are versatile enough to switch up artwork regularly.

My favorite purchased piece in the nursery is the oversized drumshaded light fixture. It makes the whole room feel finished and polished.

Sentimental pieces were placed on shelves (to keep them safe from grubby little hands & clumsy sleep-deprived mothers).

In the end, we were so happy to bring our son home to a space created just for him. And I think he liked it too...he even said so. Well, sortof. At least that is how I interpreted the two minutes of baby talk dribble that he babbled when he entered the room.

S+S E-Design: Coral + Navy

So last week we posted lots of inspiration regarding the color scheme: coral and navy. Today we are posting the actual inspiration board for this ah-mazing e-design that we are currently working on. Our thought regarding this design scheme was to give it a beachy yet glam feel. Equipped with mercury glass, gold accents and of course coral and navy accessories!
We decided to incorporate the greyish antiqued wood and neutral trimmings into the tufted ottoman. This shade of wood has been very popular as of late, and we see why. This will give the room the ultimate beachy feel but still brings glammy elements with the shape of the legs, the intricacy of the design and the sophisticated tufting. Also, to carry the neutrals in the room we are bringing a stark white settee into the mix. You cannot go wrong with a white couch, AS LONG AS you Scotchguard the heck out of it. Massively. We just love the blank canvas it brings and any navy or coral throw would be perfect the perfect addition to the settee.

An amazing navy and white tribal print rug adds just the right amount of other world charm to the room. We chose a geo-print navy and white lamp base to add a fun print to the space. Also, on the list for navy, a navy garden stool. What room is complete without a garden stool, I ask you? There is not a room. That is the answer. Whoever said navy is a masculine color, is dead wrong. Dead.

On to the coral accessories. Coral, coral? Oh yes. Definitely. I also purchased this for my Mom for Mother's Day. It is what she asked for! Apple doesn't fall far from the tree. As they say. Anyway, Coral, Coral pillows and coral chevron pillows will be the perfect accent to our settee. We also thought these adorable coral varied size jars would be the perfect knick knack added to a table. Love! So feminine and fab.

On to the wall art. We love the mirrored/mercury glass bird prints. They have such a luxurious touch with the trim and also a natural touch with the actual art. Beachy/glam all in one. To top it all off we finished the room off with a unique detailed framed mirror. The gold touch brings it all together!

We hope you all enjoyed! If any of you are interested in S+S E-Design, email us for details and prices.

Monday Musings: Walls of Grasscloth

We have totally been obsessing over grasscloth walls lately! It seems that all shades, purposes and textures have been popping up in the design world and we cannot get enough. There is a certain living room design that we are currently working on that we decided to incorporate the lush texture of the grasscloth on the wall ( Be patient folks, you will see it this week! It may or may not incorporate some coral and some navy. I guess you will have to wait and see) .

I do not know if any of you have had the pleasure of removing grasscloth wallpaper from a wall before, but it is definitely not a task for the weak. I once owned a home that had literally 5 layers of wallpaper to remove before we could get to the actual wall. One of these layers happened to be grasscloth. After World War III ensuing between me and the grasscloth wallpaper, I was convinced I would never, ever again willingly enter into the world of grasscloth. Today, I stand corrected. And for those of you who are wondering who won in the battle of Me vs Grasscloth? I won.

From powder rooms to kitchens, no room seems off limits for this design staple. It adds a certain richness and luxury to an area and we are not thinking about stripping this wall covering from any wall. Well anytime soon that is.

This hue of gray/green is absolutely to die for in this dining room. The accessories are obviously lush but that the texture of the walls completely sets it over the top. The added pop of punchy blue vases are alright in our book.
We could almost see this certain variety of grasscloth in a small powder room, even with that mirror. Absolutely love this in a bedroom and would have never thought to use it in a bedroom. Such delicate and feminine touches really subdue the organic texture of the walls.
This may come as a surprise to you all but we are in love with this shade of grasscloth. TURQUOISE!! What is not to like? The chandelier? Oh. My. Love it. Want it. Need it.
Love the juxtaposition of the natural elements of the wall and the glammy glam accessories. We all love an x-bench and anything mercury glass related. This gets an A+.
On to the blue/gray family of grasscloth walls. Regal Beagle my friends. The lamps. The bedding.  The headboard. The furniture.
Navy blue grasscloth dining room. Normally people love to judge a combination of black and navy but this could not be more on point. This chandelier is so old world along with the beautiful marble table.
Kitchen grasscloth? Never seen it before and we want to keep seeing this look repeated! Again with the gorgeous chandeliers!! Loving the femininity of this kitchen.
{style at home}
Busy week here. The amazing Katie from Bower Power will be guest posting for Favorite Room Feature, and we will be guest posting over with Kristy at Hyphen Interiors with her new series: Before the Paparazzi. Stay tuned for a client design board this week. We hope you have a fabulous Monday!

S+S travel: Savannah

Happy Friday!!! We could not be more relieved that it is finally Friday. The thought of sleeping in, is almost too much to handle.

We wanted to share our adventures from Savannah with you...in full detail. As we said before, we had never been to Savannah, and it did not disappoint. If any of you have the opportunity to go, we strongly recommend it. Lovely city. Lovely people. Lovely eating. Lovely drinking. All around merriment.

Here is a picture of the cast of characters that attended this girls weekend. We were dining at Vic's on the River. Amazing restaurant. You would never have guessed it...its on the river. Crazy. I know.

This is the outside of the condo we stayed in. Honestly. I cannot even tell you how amazing this place was. Right in the middle of everything going on in Savannah. Thanks to Lindsay (Sadie's mom), for arranging almost everything about our trip. She did not disappoint when it came to lodging. The decor in this condo was beyond phenomenal. You will see.
We were all lusting after this piece. OMG. The color. The shape. The texture. It was definitely a focal point of the room.
Awesome branding iron repurposed as a candlestick. So unique. Especially traveling with two Texas girls...they loved!
Ok. On to our absolute favorite piece in this entire condo. This chandelier. Are. You. Kidding. Me. This chandelier doesn't just make a room....it makes a house. Something about its modern flare coupled with the regal mirror that is hung and the creamy, warm chocolate brown walls. We couldn't get enough. Although you cannot see the intricate detail on the chairs, you will have to trust. The wood detail was different on each chair. However, they were all finished off with a brass nailhead. Cannot go wrong. Cannot. While we were shopping in Savannah, we came across the store that this was purchased from. If anyone is interested, let us know. We will put you in contact.
Gorgeous rustic ceramic bowl. In one of our fave colors, turquoise.
Bedroom Numero Uno. How gorgeous is this room? Seriously. Lovely white linens (which are our personal fave) and the adorable mint green nightstands. The owner of this condo is an artist, which is of no surprise.
Bedroom Number 2. Again, gorgeous white linens with an amazing iron bed. I am not sure if this bed was an antique but it definitely seemed from a different time.
On to the shopping. Here is Paris Market. Where to even start. The reclaimed table. Oh my. I have to have a reclaimed wood table at some point in my life. It is a must. And it must look just like this one. The table settings shown here were also unbelievable. China with a turquoise rim. So gorgeous.
Close up. Yes. We will take two of everything. Please and Thank You.
The famous Lady & Sons (Paula Deen's Restaurant). This is obviously a very tourist like stop. We just wanted to walk by it. When we did, there was a line of about 16,000 people outside waiting to get a table for dinner. Ok, maybe not 16,000, but it was close enough. I am sure the food is great, but we are too lazy to wait in a line like that for anything. Oh, well maybe that chandelier shown above, but thats it.
Lovely home on the walk back to our condo. Every house has so much charm in Savannah. At some points, we didn't even feel like we were in the US. It had a bit of a South American flare to some of the architecture. Absolutely gorgeous.
Another gorgeous home.
Unbelievable gated garden. This place looked enchanting. I shall call it "Enchanted Gardens." Oh so original.
Amazing architecture and detail, again.
Beautiful church.
The amazing Spanish Moss dripping from all of the trees. We could not get enough of it.
Us girls again. Walking in the park during some sort of dog festival. We were so sad we didn't have the girls with us to partake in the dog fun. There were literally 16,000 dogs at this event. That my friends, is no exaggeration.
Drinks at the fabulous Bohemian, which we spoke about a few days ago (you know, the one with the Chicken and Waffles). Which by the way a certain recipe involving those two elements may or may not be popping up around this Summer. Also, while in Savannah, a drink concoction was born to the four of us. It has been called, the Savannah Fizz. Keep your eyes peeled for this refreshing libation.
We hope you all enjoyed our recap of Savannah. If any of you ever go and need suggestions on places to stay, go, eat, drink...just ask. Have a wonderful weekend readers!

S+S chow: carne asada tacos

Happy Cinco de Mayo!! This is hands down the best steak taco recipe. We are not kidding folks. This beats a Taco Bell chalupa any day of the week. This has made it on my list as a go to and is probably made about once a week. What can I say? It is always Cinco de Mayo in my house!

Enjoy this scrumptious recipe and celebrate!

Carne Asada

  • 2 lbs flank steaks or 2 lbs round steaks
  • 1/3 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • fresh ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons finely ground Mexican oregano (optional)

Marinate for about 30 mins and grill.

Adobo Sauce
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 chipotle chiles in adobo, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 lime, juice of
Combine all together.
*We mixed about 3/4 cup of chopped cabbage with some of the sauce to create a tasty slaw, delish.

Thinly slice the steak and serve on tortillas {we used corn}. Top with whatever you'd like, we suggest: cheese, avocado, fresh pico, adobo sauce {or slaw} and french fried onions. Best enjoyed with a margarita!

Favorite Room Feature: Imagine Design

Hello Sadie + Stella readers! I love being here and giving you a peek inside my very own home. I'm an Interior Designer and I LOOOOOVE designing and decorating all rooms, but my favorites would have to be the ones inside the walls of my home because I get to do them the way I want!

4 years ago, my boyfriend purchased a home and the family room and dining room looked like this before he moved in:

Wall paper border, lovely collection of plates and cups above the sofa, beautiful brass ceiling fan in the dining room, windows covered in fluffy valances...all had to go!

About a year later, when I moved in, the place looked like this:

Freshly painted walls, granite fireplace surround, cushy leather sofas (thankfully he didn't go with black!), Versailles travertine floors, updated recessed lighting...all a great foundation!

I like minimal decorations and decor, but this was just too stark even for me! So I had to spruce things up a bit:

Over-sized artwork in an unexpected shape, two-toned drapes, quatrefoil patterned rug, extra seating with a non-matching rocking chair, sofa table with accessories, ambient lighting and a handful of houseplants...definitely does the trick!

My boyfriend deserves much credit, since he gave me great bones to work with by opening up the walls and remodeling the entire interior of our home before I even knew him, leaving me no chance to get my hands on it! All it needed was a woman's touch!

Thank you, Lindsay(S), for having me over and letting me give you all a look inside our home.

lusting for coral and navy

We are dying over the combination of coral and navy. Dying folks. From the rooms to the wardrobe, nothing screams spring like this color scheme. We love the beachy, nautical feel it has in any season. We do not discriminate. We have a client that we have been scheming for lately and this just might fit the bill. Design board to come...until then. Here are some images that have us wanting more!

The inspiration:
The rooms:
This room is OOC (out of control). Love the blue and white ginger jars and all of the fun white accents. Everything is so bright and airy and then....BAM. Navy blue. Love the masculinity it adds to a girly space.
What is not to love about this room? The headboard is so simple, yet so gorgeous. The single wallpapered wall? Gorg. Love the single pop of coral in this room.
This dining room is a little darker than the inspiration. However...I cannot resist. The coral coupled with those dark slate, navy shade? Holy. Drama. For. Your. Mama.
Again. Loving the dark wall with the pops of bright coral.
Tablescapes:
Look at this tablescape. Seriously. Look at it. We are so bossy. This table is the end all, be all in my humble opinion. We posted about these glasses a month or so ago from World Market. This look can be achieved by all. That reminds me, I need those glasses.
The outfit:
Need. This. Now. Such an adorable look. Emerson Made's flowers are divine.
