A refined glam living room design and everything in between

Lovers! So thrilled to see you this morning in comparison with being buried in Insurance books and terminology. You are far better looking and far more interesting. Trust me when I say. But hey, that is why they pay me the medium bucks. Today I am sharing one of my newest projects with one of my most darling clients. Her current space is honestly awesome. She already has a lot of existing pieces that are totally going to work. Just a little accessory here and a little throw pillow there and we will be well on our way. The plan was to use a pretty neutral base, ie white walls and furniture. We are going to jazz everything up by incorporating pops of pastels using pillows, art, lighting and accessories. It is going to be amazing. Just you wait and see. She and I are already cracking away at this one and it should be there before we know it. The plan:

And in other happenings, these new lovey dovies made their way to my house this week. Ummmm painted rhinestone statement necklaces by none other than my newest favorite Etsy Shop, ELM. Check them out now. I pretty much need each and every item in their shop. I am greedy like that. I will be styling these babies every which way. Don't worry. My other arrival this week. My winnings from a Puddleduck Paper Co. giveaway. This is the Emery Greeting Card set. Does this not remind you of Kate Spade? I am so in love and I am so going to be writing lots of notes now. Maybe I should get a penpal? Hopefully not the inmate kind.

Favorite Room Feature: My Sweet Savannah

You know that moment when you see another persons home and it literally takes your breath away? That is how I feel about Melaine from My Sweet Savannah. Her home is so open, fresh and cozy and I just want to spend the weekend there. Melaine? Am I invited? Melaine has this amazing talent to marry masculine and feminine spaces so well that you do not even realize. The girl has got it going on and is probably the sweetest girl ever. I'm a fan and you will be too! 


First of all, I am so excited to be guest posting on Sadie and Stella~I feel like such a celebrity! Thank you for having me. Our home has really evolved over the course of the 14 years we have lived here. One thing you need to know about me is that I change things around, and I do it often! My husband always jokes with me that he is going to come home from work and trip over something because I am constantly rearranging!

 Our living room started out really dark and lodgey as you can see. My husband wanted the typical dark manly leather couch and deer head along with the cedar planked walls, which were already there when we bought the house. I have to admit, in the late 90's I liked this look too. However, my taste changed and I wanted things a little lighter. I finally convinced my husband after years of begging him to paint over the walls. Our compromise was that he got to keep the ceiling the natural wood. It took lots of primer and gallons of paint, but it really lightened up the room! I used Ralph Lauren "Oatmeal" in a eggshell finish.

Eventually I'd either like to have wall to wall seagrass installed in this room, or continue the same pine wood floors that our kitchen has. The carpet is there, and is the color that it is, because it hides dirt, and all the messes that come with having kids and dogs, and living on a lake! 

 My husband got the gigantic tv mounted over the fireplace and we framed old photos of the lake we live on from the early 1900's in inexpensive Ikea frames. I really like the impact the photo wall has for such a little amount of money. Another Ikea purchase was the sectional. It's a linen blend and machine washable and I love it! I change the pillows out often, {is there such thing as pillow hoarders?} and usually always have fresh flowers in this room. The chippy coffee table trunk was a $5 garage sale purchase that houses my collection of magazines. The leather chair was a craigslist score which my husband loves, and I have to admit, I love the mix of masculine and feminine in this room.

I want our house to have the informal comfy look where there is no need to take your shoes off and neighbor dogs can wander in and out through the open doors {which they do!} I think this room best describes how we live. We love our casual lake lifestyle where the kids fish and swim all day in the summers, and where guests can drop by for homemade cookies!

Summer Series with Lindsay & Courtney: Outdoor Decor

Lovelies! Today is the day. Today is the kickoff of the Summer Series with myself and Court from A Little Glass Box! As you can see, we are starting with Outdoor Decor. It is no surprise to any of you that I could not be less shy about using color. I am bout it bout it. My ideal summer soiree would be equipped with none other than loud patterns, bright colors, anything gold, colorful refreshments and fresh flowers. Phew. Did I get it all? The best way to accessorize a table is with functional pieces ie lovely bottles of Pellegrino and flavored sodas. Trust me. Summer, summer, summertime. Summertime. Just a little Will Smith for you on this Tuesday morning. Thank me later. 

A close up of the place setting. Layers of solids mixed with patterns gives you that built, textured look we are all looking to achieve. 

I love to decorate any soiree with refreshments and colorful produce. Totally multipurpose for aesthetics and also to suit your guests needs. Duh. How about several colors of fancy schmancy soda and Pellegrino? Done. What is that lovely pitcher filled with scrumptious produce you ask? You may find out on Friday.  

My go to for any party that we host, my copper bucket. This thing is an absolute lifesaver and a chic one at that. Not one of those narsty orange flotation devices. This baby has style. 

Peonies are my one and only true love. They make an appearance at any and every occasion in my home.

Color Crushing: Coral and Green

How was your weekend lovers? Mine was fabulous. I spent Friday with my newest Richmond gal pal Julia from Pawley's Island Posh. Love this girl. She came over to pick me up on our way to a Stella + Dot party. Poor Jules witnessed the wrath of Stella. Stella decided to bolt out the front door and sprint directly towards the 4 lane 50 mph street two blocks from our house. Maybe it was the new house guest, maybe it was because it was her Birthday. But whatever the reason, I am pretty sure Julia is never coming back. I had to remind myself that I loved her because I was beyond furious. When rounding the corner after I had found Stella, I find Jules running the opposite way on the street. I am all what are you doing? And she is all, some other dog that looks identical to Stella is loose and I thought it was her! Hilarious. Jules. You are my hero. 

Today is obviously story time. Just recently the boy and I were enjoying a generous helping of our local yogurt joint, Sweet Frog, while we overheard the conversation of a young couple. The boy (who was quite nerdy), was on the phone with God only knows who, replies to the caller, "We are crushing some Sweet Frog right now." My boy and I looked at each other and tried everything in our power not to lose it while repeating "crushing some SF" under our breath. Mature. Awesome. So I am going to apply that young boys mantra to what I am feeling today. I am totally color crushing coral and green. 

There is something so West Palm Beach and so tropical about this color combination and I cannot get enough of it. If I had the option of huffing the color combination of coral and green, I would certainly do it. It's a sickness. Here are the items that I am lusting for in this scheme. Notice all of the tropical elements. Notice.

Inspired by these spaces. Are you freaking kidding me with this room? I know this is the room that has made its rounds ever since the High Point Market but I am going to continue the trend. I obviously adore the hand painted leaves on the wall, as well as, the coral velvet accents. Don't get me started on the furniture. Don't.

Coral walls and boxwoods? Yes. Yes please. There is not one little thing I would change about this set up here.

A mystical coral and green space. Obviously this is giving off the tropical aura. Green plants galore. This is the most perfect and elegant sunroom due to its incorporation of the CCCG.

A little different take on the CCCG. Nonetheless, it is absolutely perfect. What a lucky bambino to wake up to this day in and day out. Something tells me they don't know how lucky they even are...

Last but certainly not least, my favorite CCCG bathroom. For those of you who have no idea what CCCG is, Color Crushing Coral and Green. Remember a long time ago when I  made the declarative statement that I did believe in inventing and using acronyms, I did not believe in using the acronym and defining it each time during its usage. It is the Rachel Ray syndrome if you will. And I will. But look at this bathroom. That bamboo mirror?!?!? Ahhhh. To die. 

Lovely color combo, right? Do not forget the big things that are in store within the next few weeks here, loves. Let's walk the plank

As you all are WELL aware of, we now have an adult, grown up, real life grill. No easy bake oven here anymore folks. We have a big daddy grill. That being said, do not expect a lot of indoor, stove and oven recipes from me this Summer. No. No. No. It is all about the grill. I am considering buying the boy an obnoxious grilling apron. Something with a classy tagline such as "Grill Daddy", "Mr. Good Lookin' is Cookin'", or "Grill Sergeant. I Don't Take Orders..I Give Them". Whatever I choose it will be timeless and classy. Everything a man's grilling apron should be. I digress. So since we have gotten this grill Mama D (my fabulous mom) has introduced us to cedar planks for the grill. She has fashioned many recipes on this plank and has claimed it will change lives. Naturally, I was open to it. If you listen to one thing I say this year, let it be this. Go and get yourselves some cedar planks. Here is what you are going to make with them.

Aaaaanddddd last but certainly not least. Today is a very big day in our household. Today is Stella's 7th Birthday. She is Mommy and Daddy's big girl and its amazing that it was so long ago that she was doing naughty puppy like things because it feels just like yesterday. Oh wait. That is because it was yesterday. Happy Birthday to the woman with partial ownership of the keys to our hearts. Stella. Her eyes glow too. That is a symptom of naughtiness I am told.
