I scream, you scream, we all scream for popsicles

That's right. Just recently my friend and I made a day trip to Charlotte. I am not sure if it was the sudden heat wave or the pure exhaustion of day shopping but the entire way home we whined for an alcoholic sno-cone. We were on the smart phones furiously searching for any place that would serve such a concoction. Fail. Defeat. We realized we were just going to have to make them ourselves. Since we are not fortunate enough to own a Snoopy Sno-Cone machine, popsicles it must be. I don't know what it is about this time of year but I start jonesing for various flavor combination homemade popsicles. Now some of you may be so lucky to have the Zoku popsicle maker while I have the chic Wal-mart version. Roll back? Yes. Hey, it gets the job done. In the summer I find myself throwing any fruit combination into the blender and pureeing to an oblivion. Delight. So the loveliest part about making all of these popsicles at home is that you can carelessly add a splash of your favorite spirit into the mix. Voila! You ask for an alcoholic popsicle and an alcoholic popsicle we shall have.

Random happenings. That's what's up.

Lovelies! How art thou? Isn't it cruel that today is Thursday? Agreed. I am still recovering from the awesome room that Danika featured yesterday. Lawwwwddd. Lately I can hardly organize a thought. Let alone a sentence. Soooo today I am going to do another neurological dump. These things are happening on the regular. You know how we do. Due to life being super chaotic and extremely unglamorous lately, hopefully you will bear with me. This is me keeping it real. 

The latest e-design project. This one for a couple that lives in this awesome Craftsman style home. This particular design is for their living room. We were going for basic staples but adding in fun color and pattern. Loving the finished product.

Needing this. In a desperate way. I am thinking this will be fabulous with the new recovered chair that I am so anxiously awaiting. Using the fabric combination seen here.

Favorite Room Feature: Gorgeous Shiny Things

So. Tell me something. Tell me you have heard of the famous O'verlays. If you have not, they are the genius fretwork pieces that are made to accompany your Ikea pieces. Hello Ikea hack. They are beyond brilliant. My girl Danika from Gorgeous Shiny Things just so happens to be the owner of this amazingly creative product. Let me just tell you, Danika is probably one of the most clever and original designers I have ever seen. Go figure. It is honestly not fair! She is an incredible artist and decorator. Just you wait and see. I am so glad I have gotten the chance to know her over the blogosphere. Truly inspirational. Danika, (no not Danika Patrick), you are up! 

Hello there S&S readers! I am Danika from Gorgeous Shiny Things and I am so excited to be invited to participate in this series and share one of my favorite rooms with you. Truth be told, these ladies were the motivating factor to get me to tie up some loose ends in my family room.  I had been procrastinating making slipcovers and finishing some projects, but there is nothing like a promised deadline to get me moving.  It was also a lot of fun having a perfectly clean room for a few hours. It will never look this good again.

We have been in this house for almost three years now, and those of you that read my blog know this room/entryway have been about 6 different ways from Sunday in that time.  I love to paint stuff, my entry in particular because its only a 10 foot wall, so the current chevron stripes have been holding strong and I kind of did my decorating around them...

This room isn't for the faint of heart with color, so I apologize to all the neutral folks in advanced. Please put on some sunglasses because its gonna be bright (and crazy).

I like my lily gilded I suppose, and I also have no fear of color and pattern which explains the zig zags paired with my gold pen squiggle walls.  Its a high energy room used by 2 little boys, my husband and myself.  I dosed the hell out of the place with pink because I am surrounded by testosterone 24/7 and needed to keep my girly side. 

 I just finished my new white slipcovers in time for summer.  I love this time of year and I tend to really amp up the bold and bright.  I love a space that is fun and relaxed.

 I made a super sized painting that hangs over the TV. 

 This room gets used tons thanks to the boob tube on its big vintage alter/ credenza.

 I also just recently painted a wall "Old Navy" by Ben Moore (best navy blue EVER!) and I added 3 big IKEA mirrors over in the dining area to brighten it up a bit.  I added some O'verlays since it is my biz and I have to test these things- right?

 I am also a lighting whore, and find myself picking up stray, discarded chandeliers and lamps from the trash and thrift stores. I particularly love this lucite number I found at a year ago. She is a keeper...

My dining table is very special to me because it was made by my father.

 Our house is 1960's ranch, so what it lacks in crown moldings 

it makes up for in funk (or so I have convinced myself): like its retro

The His version of the "His and Hers Office"

Well, well, well. So we meet again. I need to start this post with something completely unrelated. Something I saw yesterday that I feel inclined to share with the world today. So, I was at my least favorite retailer in the world, ahem Wal-Mart. We have this love/hate relationship. I mean, I love a good roll back, but I hate Wal-Mart. That's how it works. So I was making my way to the snack aisle to pick up this new snack that I have discovered. I need to be honest with you all here. It is called "Indulgent Trail Mix." It has nuts, white chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, golden raisins and cranberries. I am telling you all this in fear that I might need to be committed due to my obsession. I want this stuff morning, noon and night. I am hoping you all will find your way to get some as well, so I am not in this alone. After all, misery likes company. Any way, so  I am making my way down the aisle and suddenly I start smelling smoke. I look down and a man is smoking a cigarette, with oxygen, on a scooter. All I can say, is only in Wal-Mart. Why I did not snap a photo in that instant to post to www.peopleofwalmart.com, I will never know. I froze. I was so disoriented that I ran my cart directly into his scooter. Then I went and told on him. The end. Let's get down to the biz.

Here we have it. The his version of the "His and Hers Office"(horn sounding). What I was looking to achieve here was a classically designed space with shades of modern. My guy loves classy and sophisticated pieces but also leans toward scientific accents and sentimental adornments. In our loft, he used to have a "corner" with all of his awesome things. Now he gets a room. Moving on up. A side note here, the computer is really where it is at in this space. Let's face it. He wanted me to show exactly what his office setup is going to be: four computer monitors stacked together to create what I call "the control center." That's right fellas. Eat your hearts out. He will be running the world from this "his" office in Richmond. Glamour.

Monday Musings: I Heart Geometry

There is a phrase I would never dream of saying. Let's be honest, Geometry sucks. The subject that is. Luckily I am not here to talk about perpendicular bisectors. I am here to discuss geometric patterns on places, spaces and faces. Whether it be floors, walls, accessories or fashion...I am all over it. I am talking David Hick's, Jonathan Adler, Kelly Wearstler geometric graphics. The Kings and Queen of geometric prints.  Before we get to all of these fabulously shaped accouterments, how was your weekend? Was it delightful? Mine made me come to realize a few things. 1. I have so much ____ to do before the move. OMG. As we all know, I will wait until 24 hours before the movers come to really hit it hard. I am a procrastinator. 2. I am the worst housekeeper in the world. I would give myself a solid 2 out of a 10 scale. Let's put it this way. The vacuum is so foreign and infrequently used in this house, that when it is utilized, the dogs run for cover. I need the maid Rosie, from the Jetson's. Please Rosie. Enough of the babble, let's do some math.


Black and white hexagon stair runner. For real? For real. Obviously this is the focal point of this entryway. There are so many other fabulous elements to this space, but the eye is immediately drawn to the shapes.

Holy statement. I cannot deny my love for a dark space. Some might find it dreary, I find it cozy and full of character. This geometric floor brings so much pattern and design to the room. The designer stuck with solids throughout and went with a funky, mathematical rug. Win.

Another fabulous geometric floor at play here. Such a classically designed space that was begging for some modernity. Here it is. A bunch of plus signs on the floor. The black and white geometric piece was just what the doctor ordered to ground the space.

Who has not seen this image? And who does not love it?! Oh my. That ongoing gallery wall looks like a very time consuming and laborious project. Some serious math went into play there with the hanging and adjustments. But lordy, lordy look at that hexagon runner. The neutral colors are the perfect hues to calm the piece down. If that is at all possible. Obsession.

To the David Hicks La Fiorentina patterned fabric. I die. In an entire couch?!?! And don't forget, a lampshade. That, mixed with the striped floor is a total style slam dunk. I just want to sit on that couch and talk about how many planes are in a shape. Lies. 

Another David Hicks win and on a bar table! Cha-ching. Who doesn't love a little David Hicks mixed with your favorite cocktail? I thought so. Fabulous neutral grey that will never, ever get tired. The pattern has so much impact that the color is honestly second thought.

Fabulously neutral and classically designed bathroom and then BAM. Bam with the David Hicks Roman Shade. He is just fabulous.

On to another favorite pattern of mine, the Betwixt. Ahhh the Betwixt. Those walls are all upholstered in Betwixt fabric. No lie. Hello mathematics. God. If my Geometry teacher was throwing problems like this at me, I would be all about it. How fabulous? Those red cabinets aren't so bad either.

Hello David, so we meet again. The David Hicks hexagon pattern, on the walls. Yes. On the walls. Cray, cray. This office is seriously major. Anyone spot a Hollywood Regency Brass Dome Lamp residing on the desk? It is fabulous I tell you. And a basket on the ceiling?!?! This room is not comprehendible. I need it.

And to the geometric patterns of fashion. Is this skirt not to die? Love the geometric star pattern with the pops of neon threading. Dear Neon, I love you. Love, Lindsay.
