Happy Friday. Happy Weekend. What do you all have in store? We are totally thinking a DIY or two. Soooo...hopefully you all will be as inspired as we are by these amazeballs DIY's we have been seeing around the world wide web. As you all know, we are slightly obsessed with gold lately. Pretty sure the gold spray paint and I are going to have a rendezvous this weekend. Hot and heavy. Here are some DIY's that may or may not be popping up around our house this weekend...

Ok this project is super laborious but I am not sure I care. The end result is too fabulous to cry over spilled milk here, folks. Look at this. The texture is nutso. I. Die.

This DIY had us at Kate Spade inspired. We have loved this gold polka dotted piece of art since the day we laid our greedy eyes on it. Gold, sparkles, polka dots. What is not to love here?

Holy. Statement. Never ever would I have thought of doing this, until now. What an impact a solid gold piece of art makes. Bling. Bling.

Super lovely gold accent tray to hold all of your favorite knick knacks. The end result looks so regal that you cannot believe it was a DIY. My Rosebud Salve would LOVE to lay his head here at night.

Super fun spin on a wooden tray. We love this for cocktail or dinner parties. Super easy project that only requires tape and gold spray paint. Sounds RIGHT up our alley.

Who would have ever thought that sticks would be a glamorous accessory for your candlelight? We sure wouldn't have. Its amazing that such an earthy and organic element can add such class and pizzaz to any piece. Again, super simple DIY. Literally. Go pick up sticks. Literally.  To make it a little more festive, spray paint your sticks gold. Why not?

Love, love, love this pillow for any day but especially with the holiday seasons coming up. We could even see tracing a deer head onto a white canvas pillow and doing the fill in with gold paint. Adore!

Ok so this isn't gold, yet. I totally need a new pinboard to display fabrics, inspiration etc. I am totally leaning to this. It is unique and definitely funky, but to repel from the overall nautical theme, I think some sort of gold rope/twine is going to be incorporated in my diy. What do you all think?

S+S chow: pumpkin gingerbread trifle

We are ready to be sooooo kind to your waistlines. Who likes pumpkin? And who likes gingerbread? Check and check. If you all are looking for the perfect fall/winter dessert, look no further. How about a pumpkin and gingerbread trifle? Yeah. That is what we thought. This is so good that we could shamelessly plant ourselves on the couch and make an enormous dent in this baby. We are totally serious and you will be too.

ingredients

• 2 (14-ounce) packages gingerbread mix
• 1 (5.1-ounce) box cook-and-serve vanilla pudding mix
• 1 (30-ounce) can pumpkin pie filling
• 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
• 1/3 teaspoon ground cardamom or cinnamon
• 1 (12-ounce) container frozen whipped topping
• 1/2 cup gingersnaps, optional
•

Bake the gingerbread according to the package directions; cool completely. Meanwhile, prepare the pudding and set aside to cool. Stir the pumpkin pie filling, sugar, and cardamom into the pudding. Crumble 1 batch of gingerbread into the bottom of a large, pretty bowl. Pour 1/2 of the pudding mixture over the gingerbread, then add a layer of whipped topping. Repeat with the remaining gingerbread, pudding, and whipped topping. Sprinkle of the top with crushed gingersnaps, if desired. Refrigerate overnight. Trifle can be layered in a punch bowl.

Favorite Room Feature: Just a Touch of Gray

Good morning lovers! Today we have a very special guest that is sharing her favorite space with us. If you all don't know Rachel from Just a Touch of Gray, shame on you. We are absolutely kidding! Not really though. She has a fabulous blog that focuses on her house renovation that they are completing on their own. Let me tell ya. They are doing a FABULOUS job. Just you wait. 

Hello! I'm Rachel from {Just a Touch of Gray} and I'm thrilled to be here on sadie + stella today! The two stylish minds behind this fabulous blog are absolutely amazing! As I'm sure all of you visiting today already know! I was so excited when they asked me to share my favorite room with you. I have to admit I flipped flopped back and forth over the decision. You see hubs and I have been renovating our house for almost a year and a half now and have had our minds set on making it feel like "us". With just a few more rooms to go we have come a long way! But all in all I'd have to say our living room is my favorite room.

Not only is it a far cry from what we started with...

... it's also the first room I've ever decorated from top to bottom. That's right, no hand me down furniture here. I was estatic to get my hands on this room and infuse our style into it. It turned out better than I had hoped!

I also love that it's in a prime spot in our house. To the right of the fireplace is a double doorway opening up to the front sitting room, which also houses the front door and an oversized window. I also have a great view of the breakfast bar and into the kitchen right from the couch (kitchen before and afters to come), which is great for entertaining and conversing with hubs while he chefs it up! :) Behind the couch you can see the sofa table/china cabinet. Our dining room table is just beyond that. Our living room and dining room is actually one long room that spans the short side of our house, so my goal was for the spaces to be clearly defined, yet compliment each other.

But back to the living room...

We spend a lot of time in this room whether we're just lounging on the sectional in front of the tv....

...napping in my favorite spot... 

... entertaining friends and family, or playing with our precious lab in front of the fire.

I think writing this post now has me convinced this really is my favorite room!

A big girl's retreat

We are so excited to reveal our latest local project. It is our first ever of this sort. A big girl's room! Our client is the most darling little girl, we shall call her E, and she only deserves the most darling space to foster her creative spirit. Our client has a bedroom with a bonus room space attached. We wanted to make this a fun and exciting space where E and her girlfriends can gather and have a great time. Within 5 minutes of meeting with our client, we knew exactly what they had in mind. This little girl knows style! You know when you sit down with a 9 year old and she says she wants a pagoda chandelier, girl  knows what's up. She knew she wanted bright colors and high fashion. Her wish, is our command. 

Let's start with the seating. We wanted to create seating at a relatively low cost for E and her friends. Our suggestion was to have 4 20'x20' floor pillows made with a turquoise quatrefoil fabric that we had already purchased for the space (not seen here). With those pillows, we decided that hot pink cording was a necessity. In addition to the seating, we found a steal at our local Habitat for Humanity. This is the perfect addition for the desk. We suggested to have that painted a distressed white shade and then upholstered with the turquoise multi colored stripe fabric (seen as a pillow on the board). This will be a simple DIY project and we think will be an adorable addition to the space. Obviously an overstuffed chair is a necessity in this fun space. We see it perfect for reading and lounging. 

As far as a desk goes, we found this amazing turquoise piece that is sure to turn heads. It is extremely affordable given the design and style of it. We absolutely adore it for the space. Our client was big on storage. In effort to create affordable, functional storage, we think the best option would be line the walls with the Target-ish cabinets in white and then paint the backs of the cabinets a bright pink. We even thought maybe adding a little trim to the top, might be a fun addition to make the pieces look more custom. We figure we can really jazz the plain and boring modular shelving up.

On to the accessories. We included a few options for fun pillows to add splashes of color to the room. Also, we adore elephants and think they are a fun and lively addition to E's play room. Lighting! We were lucky enough to find an old brass chandelier at a local rehab store that we are planning to turn into our very own pagoda chandelier. We decided to go with a bright pink to contrast the light pink walls. As for the desk lamp, every little girl needs a hot pink desk lamp. Don't ya think?  

Wall coverings. As we mentioned, E is a super creative and bright little girl, of course she needs pinboards to display all of her fun notes and drawings. This could be a simple DIY project. Just find decorative frames, add the cork and some paint and voila! Super easy. We loved the idea of super feminine artwork.  We had been obsessed with the idea of making button art with her initial, E. You will see the example in the design board. All you have to do to recreate this look is get a mish mash of random buttons and glue them on to a pretty sheet of linen and frame it. We have also kicked around some other ideas about creative DIY art in the room. Framing E's art, printables. List goes on and on.
