Fall: It is ALL about the brass

So I have to be real. As the fall season rolls around, I tend to scramble a bit because warm neutral colors do not EXACTLY fit into my bold lifestyle. My fix? It is ALL about the brass. Brass is a material that adds both glam and warmth to any space. To warm up my living area I added an agate accent table and some major brass accessories. I mean if implementing a piece with a natural material such as a jewel toned agate doesn't take you immediately to fall and nature, I don't know what will. Get your sass on with the brass on.

Monday Musings: A little of this, a little of that

Seriously ladies? Monday? I know I am supposed to be inspirational and pump you up for the week but I have to be real honest with you here. Mondays blow. Amirite? Lawd help us. So what I am digging this dark and cold Monday morning is a bright aesthetic centered around the most amazing piece of art I discovered from my girl Tobe. She talked about Emma Gale here and ever since then, I am totally obsessing over the unusual pieces. Need it. Love it. Want it. Whatchu think? I would die to walk in my home everyday to this little set up.

Tory Burch Home

I mean what is going on people?!?! This is like cats living with dogs. Mass hysteria. Well, no. Not actually. It was an organic transition for Miss Tory Burch bringing her style into homes. Count it. Needlepoint pillows, lucite objects and brass trinkets. You know I am ALL over this collection. The design gods must be listening to my wishes.

Get back to nature

So there is absolutely no denying it, fall is here. Booyah. I am talking neutrals, organic materials and the autumnal palette we all adore. To autumnize my space I look for natural materials such as stones, woods and furs that take you back to nature. They give that cozy and homey aesthetic that screams fall. Also on the list? Gold baby. Solid gold. Add a splash of brass to table setting or shelf and you have instant autumn glam. Do not forget the warm palette of orange, oxblood, ambers and teals. And voila! You have an enviable fall space. Get it.

Monday Musings: Convex Mirrors

Good morning my lovely ladies. I have missed you so. Sorry for the unexpected radio silence last week. I have a lot of stuff going on with my 9-5 and I needed a little break. Forgive? I have a feeling that today will resemble just another one of those manic Monday's, a la the Bangles.

So I will be honest. In just about every S+S design, I try to incorporate a mirror of some sort. Whether it be a focal point of the space or a space filler on a wall, I feel it is a necessary piece for any room. And let's be real, not only are they chic, but they provide function. We all know that all of my designs are about functionality. I know there is dead silence out there on this one. The particular mirror that I am currently feeling would be the convex. Ooooohhh and ahhhhh. Talk about a peculiar shape and reflection that results from these bad boys. Gone are the days that these are used strictly for security purposes. They are chic.

Monday Musings: The Fireplace

Good morning loves! How was your weekend? I have to tell you, I missed you like crazy. Cray-zay. I am sure the feeling is mutual. So today I am discussing our beloved fireplaces. Or mantels if you will, and I will. I honestly think people feel that mantels are one of the most difficult areas to adorn in their home and I can see why one would feel that way. It is a focal point of the space and the dimension is somewhat challenging. My best words of advice? Whatever you do, keep it unique. Vary the scale, use odd numbers and stack. There is my two cents. Take it or take it.

Kansas City's Finest: Barbara Cosgrove Lamps

Can you believe it is already time for another Kansas City's Finest? My, my, my where do the weeks go? So today I am sharing a local lamp talent that I happen to know and love personally, Barbara Cosgrove Lamps. So when I first moved here and started my day time job as an insurance broker, I came across a girl I work with who found out I had a design business on the side. She mentioned her mom made lamps etc and the cynic in me was thinking "yeah, yeah, yeah." I was like "who is your mom?" And she is like "Barbara Cosgrove." Insert mouth gaping open on my end. Followed by me saying "so your mom is famous?" She was gracious enough to take me to her mom's warehouse and introduce me to the entire team plus tour the offices and the site. Can I just say, it is more amazing than anything you could ever imagine.

When it comes to lamps, Barbara knows her stuff. Each and every piece is more unique than the next and I have to say, I jones to put her pieces in each and every install I do. I am so proud to have such vision and talent within my city limits. Just check out all of the amazing stuff she is doing.
